What is TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Acupuncture?
The roots of TCM go back more than 3000 years, making it the oldest medical system at all. It arose from the observation of nature with its equivalents in humans. Acupuncture therapy , like the teaching of Chinese dietetics , herbal medicine and manual therapy (Tuina), is part of TCM .
How does acupuncture work?
In western medicine, a human body consists of various structures (bones, muscles, nerves, etc.). In TCM, however, one knows other aspects such as the five basic substances of life: life energy ( Qi ), blood ( Xue ), spirit / consciousness ( Shen ), essence / constitution ( Jing ) and body fluids ( Jin Ye ). Environmental factors can affect their condition. Internal disorders and long-term psychological stress can also disturb these and later negatively affect the internal organs ( zang-fu ) .
The disease, understood as pain in western medicine, is, for example, the expression of disturbances in a Qi flow along certain connecting channels (channels / meridians). With a precise needling of the meridian points , this blockage can be opened again so that the Qi can flow freely again and the pain can be eliminated. Constant tiredness can, for example, be an expression of insufficient Qi supply of the internal organs (Zang-Fu) or a lack of blood. By applying the correct combination of points and Chinese herbal therapy, this deficiency can be remedied by strengthening. The aim of acupuncture therapy is to restore the natural balance. This ordering principle is known as Yin Yang.
Who is acupuncture for?
If you do not like to take medication, if you have already been to several doctors and are not completely satisfied with the treatment result, or if a gentle therapy method arouses your curiosity. If blood thinning therapy is ongoing, a personal risk assessment by the doctor is required.
Is there a risk of infection with acupuncture?
Only sterile single-use needles are used.
Preparation before acupuncture therapy
The doctor conducts extensive individual interviews, followed by an analysis of the tongue and the pulse. Then individual therapy concepts are defined. The tongue represents a link between the inner and outer world, with the help of which the energy status of the individual inner organs (Zang-Fu) can be correctly assessed. Pulse diagnostics provide the doctor with valuable information about internal diseases.
What happens during acupuncture therapy?
As the needles go through the skin, you will feel a small sting. During needle stimulation, it is not uncommon for you to feel a pressing sensation of energy around the needles. Often you can also see redness around the needles (deqi). Most patients often describe acupuncture therapy as beneficial and pleasant .
Chinese pulse diagnostics
After the detailed anamnesis / questioning, the pulse diagnosis follows. This provides the doctor with valuable information about internal illnesses.
